After the approveval of union cabinet, Odia became the sixth classical language of India. Previously Sanskrit, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam have been declared as classical languages. All the odias including the intellectuals, linguists, political leaders, litterateurs of the state have welcomed this decision.
Benefits available for classical languages:
The scholars of eminence in the concerned language will be awarded by 2 major annual international awards.
A “Centre of Excellence for Studies in Classical Languages”can be set up.

Our chief minister Naveen Patnaik has ordered to celebrate three-day classical tag celebrations. He told that all government buildings in Odisha will be decorated and illuminated with colourful lights for three days as a mark of joy. The schools will organise programmes for awareness of Odia language .

It is a good news for all of us. We should have respect for our mothertongue Odia. We should have respect for our mother tongue Odia. Our children are studing this language as a third language in schools and colleges. It is now time for the State Government to start efforts for development and publicity of Odia language.
